What is a keystore?

Keystores and truststores are repositories that contain cryptographic artifacts like certificates and private keys that are used for cryptographic protocols such as TLS. A keystore contains personal certificates, plus the corresponding private keys that are used to identify the owner of the certificate.

How do I get a keystore?

To create a new keystore file with one or more certificates that you can use to sign Android applications: Open the Create a new Keystore/Alias wizard: Select Tools > Options > Environment Options > Provisioning. In the Build Type field, select the Android – Application Store build type.

Where is my Android keystore?

The first time you run or debug your project in Android Studio, the IDE automatically creates the debug keystore and certificate in $HOME/.android/debug.keystore , and sets the keystore and key passwords.

How does keystore work on Android?

The Android Keystore system lets you store cryptographic keys in a container to make them more difficult to extract from the device. Once keys are in the keystore, you can use them for cryptographic operations, with the key material remaining non-exportable.
